The list below breaks down the local rap scene from OGs to today’s younger generation all contributing. With that being said, the Nashville rap scene is not as well established as other places and there is not a large list of rappers from Nashville. Nashville is not a small city, but the urban community is not as large as other cities or as one would think with pockets of ‘hoods on the East Side and South Side, while the West Side is most the 40 th and Clifton area of the old Preston Taylor housing project and the North Side is primarily considered to be the largest section of Nashville’s urban areas. Starlito is easily one of the most lyrical rappers to come out of the south in recent time. Starlito would truly become a fan favorite in the Mid-South and the Midwest, while gaining thousands of fans throughout the 2010s. Fans first were introduced to him on Young Jeezy’s Trap or Die’s “Grey Goose”, a joint mixtape with Yo Gotti called From Cashville to Memphis, a joint mixtape with Young Buck called Starbucks: BOAT Story, and a feature on Lil Wayne & Birdman’s Like Father, Like Son album. Following a brief stint with Cash Money, All Star would change his name to Starlito and truly began the foundation of his rap career. Coming out of East Nashville, Starlito begun linked with Yo Gotti, while originally being signed with Cash Money Records. Young Buck would later release multiple albums, while receiving various accolades.Īnother artist is Starlito who began his career as All-Star. Beginning with Cash Money Records during the 1990s, Young Buck finally emerged as an artist during the 2000s with 50 Cent’s G Unit. Those artists that were just named were well recognized locally and somewhat regionally, but the first artist to put Nashville on the map, as far as rap music and within the streets, was Young Buck. This Tennessee city has had a number of legendary Nashivlle rappers that once included Kool Daddy Fresh, Boogie, Pistol, South 8 Mafia, Quanie Cash, and various other rappers from Nashville who were well established throughout the early days of Nashville’s hip hop scene. While just like every other large city with a sizeable urban community, in which Nashville has located on every side of town, there was a rap scene in the city during the 1990s and the early part of the 2000s. Being the mecca and the true center of the country’s country music genre, as Broadway of downtown Nashville is the equivalent to Memphis’ Beale Street, emerging as rappers from Nashville has not been the easiest, but it has never been impossible. Nashville rappers of a city known as Cashville have often been overlooked by rap scene of the cross state city of Memphis and due to the fact that the Nashville music scene is mainly known for country music, even though there are numerous rappers from Nashville.
